About Me

I am an Associate Professor in Oregon Health and Science University’s Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology; previously I was part of OHSU’s Center for Spoken Language Understanding. My research focuses on biomedical applications for speech and language technologies, including natural language processing and information retrieval. I also work in the areas of ethics and governance concerning data and technology, especially in medical contexts.

In addition to my research program, I have an active educational portfolio, covering topics in machine learning and computer science as well as data visualization.

I may have a little bit of a book problem, in that I am running out of room in my office for my work-related books, and have pretty much run out of shelf space at home for other books. When my nose isn’t in a book (and sometimes when it is), I enjoy travel, cooking, and eating, especially in company with family and friends.
